Tribological Applications
Effective applications of surface engineering and tribological principles will reduce energy consumption and material losses.

Friction, an element of tribology, has a crucial role in proper design and operation of various devices from macrolevels all the way down to nanoscales.

Friction-induced vibrations are carefully studied and controlled.

MaxTek International is actively involved and forms alliances with other companies to meet challenges in any of the following areas:

what we do

We deal with practical and theoretical studies in the physics and chemistry of surfaces and interfaces to provide innovative engineered materials and components with never-before-achieved properties or functions. Our efforts include the following areas:

- develop new lubricants for minimizing friction and wear
- study surface forces and microrheology of thin liquid films
- measure nanomechanical properties of surfaces and thin films
- model and simulate interfacial phenomena
- study nanotribology of devices (e.g.,magnetic storage devices)

We meet challenges posed by requirements for more energy efficient technologies in which surface engineering and tribology play a key role at many different levels ranging from components to operate at low friction, to long life energy saving high- temperature engines and transmissions. We develop tightly controlled surfaces important in the production of low-friction components.

The quest for energy-efficient systems requires lower viscosity lubricants and higher operating temperatures, both of which pose technical challenges especially in systems with different rubbing contacts. Of especial interest to the tribology community is our experience in developing technological processes for diffusion and overlay protective coatings along with compositions of such coatings to protect components and structures that must operate at high temperatures.

MaxTek International has the expertise necessary to meet such challenges. We have members on our team who have both extensive experience in industry R&D and academic expertise in teaching graduate courses on Tribology and Advanced Materials at several top ranked universities including the University of Southern California (USC).
